Jennifer Roy - Science - jroy@treknorth.org

Hello! I'm the High School Science teacher at TrekNorth. I teach Physical Science, AP Biology, High School Health, Environmental Science and Environmental Chemistry. I come with a background in working with children in grade one through adults, in the fields of environmental education, community service-learning, afterschool programming, and children's mental health. My Master's is in Environmental Studies from Antioch New England.

I really love teaching at this school, with the small classes allowing me to get to know my students well. This was one of the reasons I wanted to be a teacher, which I realized while teaching environmental education at a center in Massachusetts. I would work with a group of students for, at most, five days, and then never see them again. I often wondered what happened to certain students, or wanted to learn more about why a student was acting the way they were, but there wasn't time. At Trek the time is there, and the encouragement is there to develop these types of relationships with students. I feel blessed to be working with this community of adults and youth.

"For me, it is a spiritual duty of teachers to discover the genius in every child, even the ones that may be the most annoying. If I cannot discover and express the greatness in others and keep those gifts in the forefront of my mind each day, then I do not meet the requirements of being an authentic teacher. Individuals are often the last to discover their talents; many people need to have their great qualities pointed out regularly before they can accept them as real."
Jay Garland, Joyful Learning in a School Community
