Sonoran Hot Dog

Adding to the list of TrekNorth lunches that are difficult to eat with a mustache (see Gyros), the Sonoran Hot Dog was piled up with a mound of toppings, most of which wound up on my hairy upper lip. Luckily for 98% of the TrekNorth student population, this isn’t a problem, but for this food critic, it was a challenge to find the right angle of attack, which I finally got down, after about four or five napkins and finding the proper way to unhinge my jaw.

First of all, wrapping any food item in bacon is a good idea, and the Sonoran hot dog is no exception. At the base level of this lunch, that’s essentially what you were getting- a bacon wrapped hot dog. However, I noticed one thing from students who didn’t think this lunch was particularly interesting… They didn’t put ANY toppings on it!  So to make up for that, I put ALL the toppings on it. I loaded it up with guacamole, pico de gallo, mayo, shredded carrots, and even baked beans. After all, the Sonoran hot dog is street food, and street food should always be interesting. The savory bacon mixed with the sweet baked beans, the creamy guac and mayo complimented the crisp and fresh pico which combined made for a complex and sophisticated school lunch.  Let this food critic’s culinary courage be a guide to all Trek students eating plain old hot dogs- be brave with your toppings, and load it up.
